If you are lucky enough to own an ASH Chopping Board, don’t ‘save it for best’…

Every day deserves THE BEST!

We only use the very best and most durable wood. Our boards, including our premium solid oak chopping board range, are made to last. Those first few cuts can be a bit nerve-wracking when you see knife marks appear in the smooth wood, but keep going — over time you will create a truly unique board.

The patina that builds up over time only adds to its beauty. Each of our oak chopping boards is constructed from several pieces of solid wood to help prevent warping and minimise cracking. Your kitchen board will develop its own character depending on how it’s used and cared for.

“Oil it once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, and then once a year for the rest of your life...”

– Old workshop wisdom

Before your board left our workshop, it was treated with at least three coats of Board Butter. We strongly recommend continuing to condition your board regularly using a food-safe oil.

Board Butter

The natural preservative properties of oak ensure your board will last for many years. However, with regular application of Board Butter (also known as butcher block oil), your board becomes easier to clean and more resistant to stains. Properly oiled wood absorbs less moisture, reducing the risk of cracking.

How to apply:

  • Apply a generous amount of Board Butter with a clean rag or kitchen paper
  • Leave to absorb for a couple of hours
  • Work it into the wood thoroughly
  • Wipe off excess — your board is ready for use

Daily Cleaning & Care

Between each use, scrub your board with hot water and soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Never dry your board in direct heat such as strong sunlight or near an oven.

Avoid submerging your board in water — wood is porous and will absorb moisture, which can lead to cracking over time.
